Typeface Design

LinoFont Typeface Design

I created this typeface in my Graduate Typeface Design class at MICA. The typeface is based on linoleum block printed letters, and the typeface allows the user to digitally create posters and other materials with the handmade, linocut aesthetic. I began by manually linocutting multiple versions of each character and scanning them into Robofont, then hand-tracing each character into the software. Linofont works in both display and body size, which makes it a versatile typeface that can be used for many different applications, from protest posters to childrens’ books to holiday cards.

Process

I hand-carved multiple versions of each letter manually, and then traced them in Robofont.
